Service Description

Prerequisite: none Event Details: ● Date: Sunday, April 12 ● Time: 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM ● Location: Clay Space Studio - East Wing Cost: FREE - guided discussion Many times in our pottery journey we will encounter pottery out in the wild where we find ourselves asking: "what makes this pot expensive/inexpensive and why is it desirable?" We plan to discuss these questions & more with a philosophical approach and a business mind where we will take time to think of pots as a product, an heirloom, a work of art to be desired or more. The point being, let's look at some nice pots! Sound intriguing or fun? Great! In this free discussion, we encourage attendees to bring 1-2 pots that they consider, whatever "good," means for them. These can be handmade by you, someone else or commercially made. Pots might include mugs, cups, vases or bowls. We will have examples of our own and will ask the big questions such as: what makes this a "good pot"? About the Artist: Jenna Vannest is a full time potter who started her journey as an artist at a very young age sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering and picking up any other craft she could get her hands on. When Jenna first moved to Eugene in 2018, she signed up at Clay Space Eugene for a pottery class where she fell madly in love with the world of clay. After several classes in the ceramics department at Lane Community College, further solidifying her newfound artistic obsession, she started her pottery company that she runs today as Forest Floor Studios. Now, she has her own pottery studio in Eugene, Oregon where she works as a production potter selling at in-person events, festivals, galleries as well as online and in stores.
